So instead of getting a new mac book, which is super expensive here, I decided to go with a cheap windows laptop in case anything happens to it and I have to get a new one when I go back to the US. However, getting a new laptop here proved to be quite difficult.
If you can avoid it, I’d really suggest not buying a laptop in Korea. It was really inconvenient for me. Most computer websites and amazon and such will not ship laptops overseas (I think it’s because of the battery. I had the same problem when I needed to send my iPod back to the US when it was having problems.) That meant that I had to buy one in Korea. I was told by a Korean not to go to a a store in person, that it’s always cheaper to buy online. But… I barely understand computer vocabulary in English, I had no idea how to navigate and find what I was looking for on a Korean website. My boyfriend helped me search.
The next issue I ran into was that I only wanted to spend around 500,000 won. I found a really good laptop in the US new for about 600,000 won but to find a new laptop of that quality in Korea it was closer to 1,000,000 won. So… new laptop was out of the question. Even the used laptops of decent quality were around 8,000 won. (When I say decent quality, I really just mean that it was a quad core and not a dual core. I wanted something faster than a dual core.)
After much searching we finally found a two year old quad-core LG with about a 2 hour battery life for 540,000 won so that’s what I settled on. I was amazed by how much more expensive laptops of equality quality are in Korea compared to the US! I was expected at least Samsung or some other Korean brands to be cheaper, but they were all more expensive! To anyone looking for a laptop, try to buy in the US!
